Meet Kellon, Seasonal Agricultural Worker from Trinidad and Tobago

My name is Kellon, I am 31 years of age and I am from Trinidad and Tobago. I have been coming to Canada since 2015 and this is my second year with Schuyler Farms.

I am captain of the football (soccer) team here at Schuyler Farms.

Having a football team here is great. Football keeps you away from trouble and being negative; you take the time away from being negative and put it into football. Our team is a great team. My first year, the guys believed in me and I was a senior player; there was a vote between me and another guy and I won so I became captain.

It is a great opportunity for me because when I finish work back home, normally I do the same thing. I go out on the field and I put in the work, you just have to balance it. With football and work you have to balance it, just like you would with school work. Football is my dream. I love it.

A few weekends ago we had a tournament and it was a great thing. There was Caribbean music and food, most of the guys come out and are a part of it. It brings the whole community together.

This year our team came in with the mindset to win. It didn’t end up how we wanted it to but we will keep practicing because that is not the end of it. The senior guys will arrange more games for us. We actually just played against a team from Toronto.

Something I want people to know is that the guys that I have been working with for the past two years are amazing. I have made new friends, met people and seen a new environment. The program is a great opportunity for me.
