Meet Uvaldo, Seasonal Agricultural Worker from Mexico

My name is Uvaldo Espinoza Muñoz. I come from Baja California Sur, where I was born. I am currently living here in Ontario, at the Sandy Shores farm. I have been coming to Canada for ten years now. Five of those years here at the Sandy Shores farm.

I decided to come to Canada to work for… for my family, to give them… to try to give them a better life. In Mexico, my work is also in the fields, including weeding, asparagus, tomatoes and all kinds of vegetables. Yes. It was a big decision. It was somewhat difficult because of the time we have to spend working here, but it has been worth it.

My family, thank God, is doing well and in good health. I have my eldest son studying at university and he is about to graduate this year. He will finish his degree in agricultural engineering.  I also have another daughter who is eleven years old and will be starting secondary school soon. I am very proud of them.

Here at this farm, we do various tasks, such as harvesting asparagus, weeding, and working with peppers. I am also involved in packing or currently, I am working with someone on the farm’s maintenance. When we’re not working, on weekends right now, we have been going to practice soccer. I play central midfielder.

What should Canadians know about us? Well, they should know that we do a great sacrifice, leaving our family back in Mexico. We come to contribute and harvest the product, which I believe they consume.
