Meet Phillip, Seasonal Agricultural Worker from Jamaica

My name is Phillip Robinson and I’ve been coming to Canada since 1998. I’ve been on this farm since 2004. Our job is to prune trees, pick lavender and help with the gardening of all of the plants and flowers, stuff like that.

Back home, I do a little farming and grow a little coffee in the Blue Mountain area. I’m from the Blue Mountain area. We grow the best coffee around. It’s really good and everyone loves it. Sometimes I bring a little bit here in a five pound bag. It smells so good.

Back home, I have my wife Vivia. We have four children including two she had before me. Our son is now a math teacher in the States. My oldest daughter went to university and is now a public health inspector for the last year. That is a good job. My other one is going to be a teacher. My boss was so proud of me that my kids were going to university. He asked me how much I needed for their tuition and said he would give it to me no charge. He said, “Get your kids education. I am proud of you”. I was so happy about that. They are really great people. They are nice, friendly and the boss really respects us.

I come here in April and I leave in October. I think Canadians should know that we do a good job and we love the opportunity to come here.
