My name is Benito Camaño Rodríguez, and I come from the state of Morelos, Mexico. I have been coming to Canada for three years including this year. In Mexico, I also work in agriculture, including corn harvesting and planting, oat planting and cutting. When there is no work in agriculture, I do construction.
Over there, we still use horses for planting, also with a yoke. We go behind with what they call a “poa” to plant every step, 3 to 4 kernels manually.
Well, through a friend, I was told that they were conducting exams. I went to make an appointment and that same day I took the exam and passed.
I have three daughters. The first one is eight years old, and her name is Jennifer. The second one is seven years old, and her name is Tailin and the third one, her name is Mariely and she is three years old. I tell them that I went to work and that I will be with them soon. I video call them every day. My wife’s name is Montserrat and she also takes care of my daughters and works in Mexico.
Here, I have been involved in packing. They have also had us do some weeding and that is it.
On weekends, we have just started playing soccer. We go to a nearby house to play.
What should Canadians know about us? Well, we make a great sacrifice coming here to contribute and help with the harvest or any other tasks. They are the ones who benefit the most.
